Research Interests

My work centers on policy and the societal implications of digitization, specifically as they relate to healthcare and innovation. The bulk of my research has examined digital platforms and enterprise IT but I am interested in large questions outside these narrow domains.

I typically handle research which centers on ongoing legal or social debates with a focus on bringing empirical clarity to these data-starved conversations. A key focus in this is identifying how decision makers must update their behavior in light of the findings of any research. I am also particularly interested in the deleterious effects of IT and how interventions might ameliorate them.

Topics of particular interest to me include:

  • Platforms and the sharing economy
  • Economics of digital and digitized health
  • Innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Inequality

Research Methods

My preferred methodologies are econometric analysis of observational data and natural experiments. My focus is on, and I typically handle research with, a focus on a clean statistical identification of the effect of inputs on outcomes.
