Research Background and Interests:

My research background is in the areas of data and knowledge management wherein I have worked on representations of uncertain data / knowledge, reasoning under uncertainty, knowledge verification, data quality, data privacy, and data-driven knowledge discovery (including machine learning). In recent years I have focused on application domains such as personalization and recommendation systems, privacy protection, crowdsourcing, and user-generated content. At the same time, I am always looking to broaden my knowledge in other domains, especially as they relate to my expertise in data and knowledge management.

Methodological Interests:

From a methodological standpoint, I am most conversant with the following:

  • data and knowledge representation approaches, and associated reasoning techniques
  • machine learning methodologies with particular emphasis on probability and information theory
  • applications of operations research techniques to IS problems
  • analytical modeling, including economic analysis

I particularly like papers that examine how information technologies can be used to create and/or support new business applications. Within this context, I particularly appreciate the use of innovative models to formalize the problem(s) studied, with appropriate demonstration of their effectiveness.
