Research Interests

I primarily study phenomena at the organizational level. Broadly speaking, my research explores the role of digital technologies in creating innovation and change. I have, for instance, studied the role of digital technologies in organizational sustainability transformations and the role of automated/autonomous design tools in changing design practices. I have a particular interest in contemporary technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, digital platforms, and autonomous systems.

My research draws primarily on qualitative and mixed-methods approaches, including the use of computational techniques to analyze trace data in efforts to building theory. I have also conducted design-oriented studies and have written about the formulation of design knowledge in Information Systems.

My key current research interests include

  • Digital innovation and change in organizations
  • Digital technologies and sustainable development
  • Philosophical and methodological questions around Information Systems research, including the construction of explanatory/predictive theory as well as design theory

Methods

I am particularly comfortable in with qualitative research methods as well as design research. I also have competency in the use of computational data analysis methods, particularly with the goal of developing theory. I further have experience in writing reviews to develop theory. I do not possess deep knowledge in survey research as well as econometrics or other industry- or market-level analysis methods.
