Research Background and Interests:

My research interests lie at the intersection of information systems, machine learning, and economics, with a particular focus on current and emerging phenomena relating to digital platforms. My research has mainly focused on two themes. In the first theme, I design advanced machine learning algorithms to achieve cost-effective quality assurance in noisy data environments. In the second theme, I employ econometric and experimental techniques to examine individual motivations and behaviors on various two-sided online platforms. My research has focused on the following areas:

  • Crowdsourcing
  • Online labor markets
  • Knowledge communities
  • Crowdfunding
  • Sharing economy
  • Online healthcare platforms
  • Online social networks

I prefer innovative research that provides new insights into theory and practice. I have a strong interest in papers that identify the determinants and consequences of individual and organizational behavior in new digital environments and papers that develop novel algorithms and techniques to solve important practical problems.

Research Methods:

I use a variety of methods in my research including econometrics, natural and quasi-experiments, machine learning, data mining, and randomized lab and field experiments. I welcome papers that apply mixed methods to address new and challenging research questions. I am not adept at surveys, interviews, case studies, and field studies.
